Whenever you buy something new online, you will probably look at some reviews of the item before you make your purchase. Online reviews are great for lots of reasons – and they can even influence the product you buy.
Children’s Watches

You would think that choosing a children’s watch would be an easy task, but with such a huge range available, you really could find yourself spoiled for choice!
A Selection of the Best Selling Childrens Watches
What kinds of children’s watches are available?
When we think of watches, the first thing to come to mind is, of course, wristwatches, but even for children the range extends much further than that, with both pendant watches and fob watches on offer.
Can I buy a children’s watch that features a favourite character?
You most certainly can. The range of character watches is absolutely vast. Whether you are into Hannah Montana, Hello Kitty, Thomas The Tank Engine or Power Rangers, you will find loads to choose from.
What about brand named watches for children? Are they available too?
Again, yes. Just as with adult’s watches, you will find a huge selection of brand named watches available for children. There are brands which have been around in the watch industry for years such as Timex and Sekonda, famous sports brands such as Nike and Adidas, and lots and lots of fashion brands like Ben Sherman. On top of that, you have big names like Disney, who produce children’s watches with all your favourite Disney characters, from classics such as Minnie Mouse to the most recent favourites, Hannah Montana and High School Musical.
Can adults wear children’s watches?
Not only can they, but many adults do. Not only are some of the children’s designs really cool and fun, but if you happen to be an adult with very small wrists, often a children’s watch is a better bet. Whilst many adult’s watches with bracelet straps can be adjusted, this is not always so easy with a regular strap. A children’s watch, therefore, offers an ideal alternative.
What should I think about when choosing a children’s watch?
Age Range and Time-telling Ability
One of the first things to think about when choosing a children’s watch is, of course, the age of the child and whether he or she already knows how to tell the time. For younger children who are still learning, you will be able to find a great selection of ‘time teacher’ watches which will really get them off to a great start.
How advanced they are with their time-telling abilities might also determine whether you choose a digital or an analogue watch. Digital ones in some ways make things easier, but there is still the issue of needing to learn to tell the time ‘properly’ at some point. The size of the watch face can also be very important for younger wearers. When they are just learning to tell the time, a big, clear face makes life so much easier.
Durability and Practicality
Another thing which is critical when it comes to children’s watches is durability. In the ‘rough and tumble’ world of children’s play, looking after their wristwatch is probably the last thing on their minds, so you need to consider what kind of treatment it will have to withstand and choose something robust enough to cope. Again, as with adult’s watches, some of the watches that are available for children are shockproof, so it may well be worth your while considering one of these.
Features
If the child that you are buying for happens to be a bit of a ‘water baby’, you can also find watches which are water resistant. In some case, this simply means that they will withstand normal splashes of water, but in others the watch may be water resistant to a certain depth. If you need something that they can keep on when swimming, for example, make sure that it is one of the latter variety.
Another thing to think about is whether you need the watch to contain any other features, such as a stop watch. Boys in particular, with their natural competitiveness, love to be able to time themselves and each other at even the simplest task!
Straps
The type of strap, including the type of fastening and the material, are worth thinking about too. The fastening obviously needs to be secure so that it cannot easily come undone, and the material from which it is made may need to be strong if the watch is to withstand some rough treatment. Of course, the material that you choose will also determine how easy the strap is to clean.
Design
Aside from the practical aspects of the watch, design is of course all-important too. For girls, you could either choose a wristwatch with a traditional strap or a bracelet watch. Then there is the shape of the watch face to consider and the range of choice, here again, is huge. As well as the more traditional round, oval, rectangular and square faces, you can also get heart, flower and even guitar-shaped designs.
Colour and co-ordination are vital for the female wearer, whatever her age, and of course you will find watches of every colour imaginable. Both faces and straps can be plain or patterned according to your individual taste, so if want to wear Hannah Montana all the way around your wrist, that’s not a problem.
Whilst the boy’s watches tend to stick to more traditional shapes, you can still find a huge variety of designs and colours for the watch face and the strap. There are cartoon characters for the younger wearers, camouflage designs for any age and watches with metal bracelets for the older age group.
One of the great features of some boy’s and girl’s watches is the ability to change the look of the watch using interchangeable faces or watch face covers. The Spongebob Squarepants watch, for example, allows you to change the head to suit your mood!
Watch Sets
Especially if you are buying a children’s watch as a gift, you may want to choose from the selection of watch sets. These are available for both boys and girls and can include a variety of accessories.
The girls’ sets often feature items such as matching necklaces or bracelets, wallets or purses and even matching alarm clocks. For the boys, you can find sets which include dog tags, stop watches and clocks.
